.grandma.

So today was a pretty productive day! Got up and finished my study guide for New Testament. So now I just have to study all the flash cards! Laundry. Dishes. Cup of my specialty hot chocolate!

Had an interesting God time this morning. I decided to read in Romans. When reading through Romans 1, I came across this...

"Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved."

Interesting that so many people think gays and lesbians is only a modern day problem within the church. When right here in scripture, the church of Romans was struggling with the issue as well. And it sounds like it was the people within the church having problems with the temptation. I continued to read on Romans 2....

" 1 You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. 2 And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things. 3 Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things? 4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?"

So what does this mean? From my interpretation I got that same gender sexual desire has been an issue throughout all generations of the church. It is a sin and a temptation just like any other sin. No sin is greater then another sin. If we condemn gays and lesbians for what they are doing, sinning, we are simply condemning ourselves. Because in all reality we are sinners too. And our sin is equal to there sin. God does not say to accept their sin though. Of course not. Sin is wrong. But should we not encourage people tempted by same sex relationships to seek god just like we would to anyone else sinning? We do not accept their sin. We accept the fact that they are sinning and that they are being tempted. They need godly council and direction out of their sins. If the church completely rejects those being temped as a person, and doesn't talk to them, then will they not be left without Godly council and direction?

I am in no way condoning the act of same sex relationships. I realize they are a sin. I am simply bringing up the fact that it's been a problem though out all generations of the church. And that its a temptation just like any other sin. We should not reject the person, but the sin. Encourage them to seek God for what their going through. I know this is a touchy subject for many. But It's a real issue that I came across in the scripture.

  1. I would agree with your interpretation of what you read-as long as you stand by the position that you do not agree with same sex relationship. Sexual sin is sin-plain & simple. But again, all sin is sin. God doesn't see sin as a city skyline in the distance-with taller buildings being "bigger sin" and smaller buildings the "lesser sins". No, God has a birds eye view of sin-to him it's as though he's looking down on the rooftops of the city-it's all pretty level from his perspective, and it's from HIS view that we will be judged, not ours.
You stated your thoughts well! :) Love you!

  2. That's what my pastor told us last year in youth group. It's made an outlook on the behavior a lot easier to deal with. A sin is a sin, don't condone it, don't accept it, accept the person.
